After going behind at Nantwich Town, much against the run of play, Buxton ran out 3-1 winners, thanks to a brace of goals from Jamie Ward, taking him to 20 for the season, and a first strike for newcomer Mackenzie Heaney.
All three Buxton goals came in the second half, in front of Nantwich Town's biggest crowd of the season, 535. Jamie scored from the the rebound after the home goalkeeper saved his 55th minute penalty. There was no mistake with Jamie's second penalty five minutes later and midfielder Mackenzie made sure with a long-range drive in off the bar, with 10 minutes to go. Full Match Report HERE
This second Bucks' victory of the week kept the pressure on leaders Matlock Town, who drew at Whitby, and second-placed South Shields, 2-1 victors against Atherton Collieries. Matlock have 58 points, South Shields 57 and Buxton 56, although the top two have one and two games in hand respectively.
Buxton team manager Steve Cunningham said afterwards: "It was a game of two halves, dull before the break but we could have scored six or seven in the second half. I was disappointed with the first period, but our players showed what they are about after half-time. We changed the shape a bit and the lads stuck to their task to give us the goals to take three valuable points.
"We're very much in the promotion fight and have missing players coming back. There's a week off now and we'll be training hard, as well as having a bit of a rest from competitive action. Then we'll go again."
The Bucks are next in action on Saturday (19th) with a home match against Gainsborough Trinity at 3pm.
