UP TO THIRD AFTER WIN AT LEADERS

In-form Buxton won 3-2 at Vanarama National League North leaders Scunthorpe United, Saturday November 9, to move up to third in the table, the club's highest-ever position. Midfielder Cian Coleman scored all three goals for the Bucks, one of several outstanding players in a battling, fast-paced side.

There was a brief remembrance service before the start of the game, then the Bucks went on to show superiority in both attack and defence, as they inflicted a first home league defeat of the season on the former EFL club.

It was a to-and-fro opening period, but the Bucks were settled by a Josh Popoola drive in the 15th minute, beating the Iron goalkeeper but passing centimetres the wrong side of a post. Quarter of an hour later and Coleman had given the Bucks a deserved lead, netting at close range from a rebounding Josh Williams shot. Coleman went on to finish his hat-trick with further goals, a 68th minute header from a corner and a left-footed drive after 77 minutes.

Nevertheless, the Iron showed signs of being a top class side at this level, scoring after 32 minutes and in stoppage time. Straight after the second, Bucks' goalie True Grant made a fine stop to maintain the lead and take the points. Full Match Report HERE

Buxton team manager John McGrath was full of praise for his young charges. He said: "We were excellent. A great performance for the full game. The first goal settled us down after a fantastic piece of approach football and we fear nobody now.

" It needed every bit of concentration we could muster to get the win but we did that and brilliant Cian scored his first senior game hat-trick. The travelling fans spurred us on at every turn and we're so grateful for their participation. On the downside, we conceded twice from set pieces but it's something we'll put right on the training ground."

On Tuesday, Brackley Town are visitors to the Tarmac Silverlands, kick-off 7.45pm. The Bucks have been drawn at home to Chesterfield in the Derbyshire Senior Cup. The match date is yet to be sorted. In other news, Young Bucks player Connor Brady has signed a dual registration with NCEL side Dearne and District.
