Luke Brennan now with 8 goals in 12 matches for the Bucks since his move from AFC Fylde.

Two goals from Luke Brennan were enough to see Buxton through to a 2-1 home win against Southport in the Vanarama National League North, Saturday February 1. That's three league successes in a row.

The Bucks were unchanged from their midweek victory at Darlington and took the game to Southport from the start, showing the crowd of 767 their quality in possession and hard work when without the ball. Southport also started brightly and moved the ball well, contributing to the afternoon's entertainment.

The opener came in 31 minutes, Josh Popoola jinking through the opposition defence to set the ball up for Luke Brennan to tap home. Goal number two was six minutes into the second half. Luke Brennan's penalty was saved by goalkeeper Chris Renshaw, but he rushed in to strike the rebound into the net.

Southport closed the gap after 76 minutes and pressed hard for an equaliser but the well-drilled Buxton defence held out comfortably for the points. Full Match Report HERE

John McGrath praised Luke Brennan afterwards. "He just wants to get better. His positive attitude to training and match days is evident. It was an excellent performance today." Double scorer Brennan said: "Goals are what I do best. My thanks to the gaffer for making it possible, by giving me so much game time."

The Bucks are up to seventh in the league table. On Tuesday they travel to Chorley for a 7.45pm kick-off. It's a key game: Chorley are in eighth, two points behind.
