Buxton went two goals down before half-time in their Emirates FA Cup Second Qualifying Round tie with visitors Barwell, Saturday September 14, but second half goals from Ben Andreucci and Diego De Girolamo levelled at 2-2 and heralded a replay.
Andreucci of Bolton Wanderers has returned for a second loan spell, joined by Crewe Alexandra's Charlie Finney, both contributing well to Buxton's efforts to make progress in the FA Cup. There was an air of necessity about their inclusion, with the Bucks' injury list lengthening.
It was a poor start for the home side, conceding an own goal after two minutes. In spite of dominating possession, a second Barwell strike came direct from a corner, after 41 minutes.
Possession, however, was made to count after the break, with Andreucci and De Girolamo, a penalty, pulling goals back in the 57th and 71st minutes. The replay at Barwell will be on Monday, 7.45pm kick-off. Full Match Report HERE
Team manager John McGrath was reasonably pleased and is expecting more from his players in the replay. He said: "We should have won the game. Mistakes let them in twice in the first half. But the lads reacted well and created a lot of second half chances. They are raring to go for Monday. We're full timers against part timers and I am confident."
Pre-match tributes were made on Saturday to club legend David "Bammer" Bainbridge, applauded by players and the crowd. Bammer has passed away after a 40 years' association with the Bucks, as an outstanding player, popular player-manager and energetic club captain with particular interest in the fortunes of the Academy. He will be missed by all who knew him.
