The away match at Chorley was called off early on Saturday morning with the Victory Park ground, not surprisingly, rock hard after the heavy overnight frost. A new date for this match will be arranged asap.
The Bucks start the defence of the Derbyshire Senior Cup this coming Tuesday with a home match against Stapenhill FC (7-45). It will be the 5th meeting of the two clubs, all in the DSC, with the last encounter coming in January 1996 when a Bevan Blackwood goal gave the Bucks a 1-0 victory in a replay after the original tie at Stapenhill finished goalless. Reduced admission prices of £10, £5 and £2 will operate on the night.
This week we have said goodbye to winger Sam Smart, who was released and has since signed for Boston United. Coming into the club is left-sided defender Matty Waters from Connah's Quay Nomads. Matty is a former Chester and Curzon Ashton player and he is available to make his debut on Tuesday night.
It was with great sadness that we learned last week of the passing of Barry McConnell (1963/70), our former full-back and captain, who is still the youngest to have worn the armband here. After starting in the Reserves with 56 appearances, Barry made 246 (1) first-team appearances. He later played for former Buxton manager, Joe Martin,at New Mills. Barry's last visit here, with his 2 sons, was for the Morecambe cup-tie 2 years ago and he was one of the galaxy of former star players introduced to the crowd on the pitch at half-time. Barry was a major contributor to the recently-published history of BFC and he was very much looking forward to reading it, particularly as he had such fond memories of his career here, but sadly that was not to be.
