For the first time in 22 years Buxton are taking their first-team players 'on tour'.(Previously, in Wayne Goodison's time as manager, a training weekend was organised at Stowe School.) On Friday, July 19th,'the Bucks' will take on Conwy Borough (kick-off 7-45 p.m.) before moving onto Anglesey the following day to play Llangefni Town (at 2-30 p.m.).Both clubs play in the north Wales equivalent of Evo-Stik League Division One, alongside the likes of Colwyn Bay, Bangor City and Rhyl. The weekend follows the previous Saturday's opener at NWCL, Division One (South) outfit, Cheadle Town, kick-off 3 p.m.
Returning from the tour, next comes the first home game, versus Trafford on Wed. July 24th (7-45 p.m.).After defeating Buxton in the Integro (league cup) semi-final, Trafford won the trophy by overcoming a full-strength Farsley Celtic. The following Saturday, at 3 p.m. Glossop North End will be the visitors for their attempt to win back the High Peak Radio Cup.
Thereafter, as the EFL and the National League start their seasons on Aug.3rd,'the Bucks' are limited to meeting other Evo-Stik League clubs. Nonetheless a trio of challenging fixtures has been arranged. On Sat.Aug.3rd Buxton, at 3 p.m., will visit losing Division One (West) play-off finalists, Leek Town, for what is sure to be a keenly-contested 'derby'. On the following Tuesday,Aug.6th,there will be a 3rd home fixture, versus Brighouse Town, kick-off 7-45 p.m. Surely one of the unluckiest of 2019's play-off teams, Town won both their ties, which in any previous season would have earned promotion to the Premier Division, but this time only 5 promotion places in the country have been available to the 7 Step 4 winners and finishing 3rd rather than 2nd in their division was enough to make Town one of the 2 unfortunate clubs to miss out.
Finally, on Friday,Aug.9th,at 7-45 p.m. fast-rising Widnes will be our visitors. After consecutive promotions, the Merseysiders found stability last season by finishing 12th in Division One (West). The Evo-Stik League campaign begins on Sat.Aug.17th.
