
With a 3-1 home semi-final win against Derby County Under-21s, Tuesday March 4, Buxton, holders of the Derbyshire Senior Cup, go through to the final again, to be played at Pride Park against Alfreton Town on Wednesday April 2nd. The Bucks have won this competition for a record 12 times.
There was a wealth of above-average football on display, a credit to both sides. Bucks goal scorers were man-of-the-match Bobby Faulkner in the 9th and 79th minutes, plus a late strike by Oli Ewing, two minutes before the start of stoppage time. Team manager John McGrath was pleased. He said: "We started brightly, dominated and moved the ball well. Derby came back at us but our energy levels were high. We should have avoided their goal, but it stirred us into more action.
"What a good loan player Bobby Faulkner is proving to be. He scored with two outstanding headers, just about unstoppable.
"So, it's back to the league next and we make the long trip to Oxford on Saturday. They're a good side and we'll have to take care."
Saturday's game at Oxford City kicks off at 3pm and the next home game will be Tuesday March 11, visitors Spennymoor Town for a 7.45pm start.
