NO RETURN FROM EARLY SETBACK

After conceding in the dying minutes of their previous two matches, Buxton fell to a first-minute opener at Warrington Town, the only goal of the Vanarama National League North game (Tuesday August 15).

The injury-hit Bucks plugged away for an equaliser, but the home side kept a clean sheet through some stout defending and slices of luck. They notched up clear chances of their own, in spite of Buxton's domination of possession.

Jak McCourt and Sam Minihan were added to the injury absentee list, although midfielder Xander McBurnie (Pictured) was called on for his full debut and left sided Eoin McKeown was back from injury to make his debut from the bench at half-time, along with Diego De Girolamo, who soon brought a diving save out of the home goalkeeper and came close again, twice in the closing stages.

For all the possession, however, the Bucks couldn't break through and must hope for the return of some of the injured squad for Saturday's visit to the Tarmac Silverlands by Curzon Ashton (kick-off 3pm). Full Match Report HERE

Team manager Craig Elliott voiced his disappointment. He said: "A big mistake for the goal, then we huffed and puffed for an equaliser and dominated the second half. But the home side worked hard. We have to cut out giving away easy goals or we'll be chasing games. Anyway, I feel once we get our full squad back we should be alright.

"Our away fans were brilliant again and we look forward to showing them what we can do at home on Saturday. We owe them a victory. That's what football's about."
