The Bucks played two home matches this week and made it six wins from 6 matches in their pre-season campaign. In a tight game on Tuesday, a youthful Buxton side overcame the 433 Football Academy side by a loan goal scored by new signing Ash Chambers.
On Friday night, Barnsley brought an under 23’s side to the Silverlands with the Bucks running out 4-1 winners in an entertaining encounter. Both sides created chances in the opening third with Theo Richardson in the Bucks goal denying two good chances for the young ‘Tykes’ and Clarke, Elliott and De Girolamo had chances go wide for Buxton. The deadlock was broken on the half hour mark by an impressive ‘Trialist’ who was playing on the right wing for the Bucks, and he netted with confidence from 10 yards. Tommy Elliott doubled the lead just two minutes later when his shot to the top corner was too hot for the Barnsley ‘keeper and it dropped into the net. Buxton played some great passing football in the first half with Ben Milnes pulling the strings from deep and competition is now building for the starting xi
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with chances at both ends amid the usual plethora of substitutions, and young academy graduate Jack Dillingham put in some telling balls down the Bucks right hand side. The lead was increased on 70 minutes when Tommy Elliott’s deflected shot appeared to the cross the line before Diego got a final touch. Barnsley pulled one back five minutes later and the scoring was rounded off when the impressive Warren Clarke netted on 87 minutes.
