HOME FIXTURES END ON A HIGH

Sam Minihan Received The Supporters Player of the Year Award From Ethan Gilman-Hawkes Before Kick Off

Buxton completed their season's home programme in the Vanarama National League North with a comfortable win over bottom team Bishop's Stortford. Diego De Girolamo opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, added to by Jake Wright after 80 minutes, to give a 2-0 scoreline. It was a run-of-the-mill performance by the Bucks, but they looked well in control for most of the game and goalkeeper Joe Young did not have a save to make all afternoon.

Team manager Craig Elliott made four changes from his side that beat Chorley most recently, with Josh Granite, Curtis Weston, Joe Ackroyd and Tommy Elliott making way for central defender Max Hunt, midfielders Max Brogan and Connor Kirby, plus left-winger Sean Etaluku. Skipper Josh Granite was back on duty after only eight minutes to replace the injured Luke Shiels.

This was not the Bucks at their best, but although Bishop's Stortford played attractive football at times there was nothing of threat in the final third. After the break, an improved performance by the Bucks produced not only the goals, but also a series of scoring chances, notably from Etaluku, Brogan and Jak McCourt. Full Match Report HERE

Craig Elliott was satisfied with the result. He said: "We've had two good wins to finish off the Silverlands games and this clean sheet is welcome. It wasn't our best performance but it earned us the points.

"Now we turn our attention to the cup final on Wednesday. We're expecting a tough time of it, but we all want to bring the trophy home again. It should be a cracking occasion."

The Cawarden Derbyshire Senior Cup Final is against Heanor Town on Wednesday, to be played at Derby County's Pride Park, kick-off 7.30pm. The season concludes with a trip to relegation-threatened Farsley Celtic next Saturday.
