Former Preston North End goalkeeper Mathew Hudson has signed for Buxton FC. He started out at Preston as part of the academy and made his debut as a 17-year-old away to Leeds United, replacing future England number one Jordan Pickford, who had been sent off.
Mathew won Preston's scholar of the year award for season 2015/16 and was given a two-year contract, later extended, but with no further first-team appearances he went to Bury on loan in 2018, then Bamber Bridge in 2020. His Bamber Bridge debut was in a 2-1 home defeat by Buxton.
Now aged 24, Mathew was released by Preston in June. He stands 6 feet 4 inches tall.
