A controversial penalty for alleged handball early in the second half gave Warrington Town a single goal victory over the Bucks in the Vanarama National League North, Saturday December 21. Goalkeeper True Grant saved the spot kick, but the taker Rodwell-Grant rushed forward to hit the rebound into the net.
The Bucks had dominated the first half without unduly troubling the home 'keeper. There was less progress after the break, in the face of a strengthening wind, and chances were few and far between. Full Match Report HERE
They gave a debut to young Sheffield United defender Dovydas Sasnauskas (Pictured), in on loan. Dovydas, aged 17, has been rising rapidly through the Blades' ranks since joining from Chelsea and is a Lithuanian youth international. Team manager John McGrath described his performance as "very solid and he can hold his head high".
John added: "We had a good, creative first half but it was a different story running into the gale-force wind after half-time.
"Our decision making wasn't good enough and it's disappointing. We didn't face forward often enough. But it was not a penalty in my opinion. Then, we had a perfectly good penalty shout of our own turned down.
"So we move on. We'll be training hard for the Boxing Day match and working to smooth out today's shortcomings."
The Bucks are at home to near-neighbours Alfreton Town for a 3pm kick-off on Boxing Day. The teams go into this match with the Bucks lying eighth and the visitors seventh in the league table.
