Following Academy Coach Frank Sinclair’s decision to take up the position as Assistant to the First Team Manager at League One side Doncaster Rovers, Buxton FC is delighted to announce that their very own First Team Manager Steve Cunningham will be taking on Frank’s role at the Academy, alongside his First Team duties.
Buxton FC Chairman David Hopkins said, “although of course Frank will be missed, we are confident that having Steve working alongside Academy Head and First Team Coach Nigel Keogh day-to-day in the Academy will be an extremely positive move for our students.”
Delivered in partnership with Buxton & Leek College, the Buxton FC Academy hosts two groups of 16–18-year-olds on an elite football and education programme. The students undertake full-time Level 3 sport and physical activity studies (equivalent to 3 A-levels) alongside an intensive practical training programme. Both squads also compete in the National Under 19s Alliance league, playing teams such as Tranmere Rovers, Preston North End, Crewe Alexandra, Wrexham AFC & Rochdale FC, as well as in the FA Youth Cup. This change can only enhance the overall experience of students within the Club, further strengthening the link between the Academy, Development Squad and First Team and making the potential for students to progress ‘up through the ranks’ even more tangible. Buxton FC wishes Frank Sinclair every success in his exciting new role.
