BOXING DAY DAMPENER

Buxton’s new manager Craig Elliott kept faith with the same starting xi that won in the Derbyshire Senior Cup in midweek over Long Eaton United. The only change was on the bench where new loan signing from Hull City, Jim Simms, replaced Jason Gilchrist. This was Buxton’s first visit to Alfreton for a league match since the 2001/02 season, a match played in the NCEL, 3 leagues lower in the ‘Pyramid’. Full Match Report HERE.

Elliott said there were positives to take from the game. He said: "We played really well in patches, particularly before half-time, but that first goal was a blow and a turning point. First goals can be everything.

"The goals were disappointing to concede and we should have done better. We'll sort it out. We've got positives to build on and take into next week's rematch."

The return New Year's Day clash between Buxton and Alfreton is scheduled for a 3pm kick-off at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium.
