BEATEN BY STOPPAGE TIME GOAL

Updated: 4 days ago

An experienced Hereford side visited the Tarmac Silverlands, Saturday October 12, and ran out 2-1 winners, but had been well-matched by their young opponents. Often, the Bucks were quicker to the ball and stronger in the tackle. Deserving at least a draw, they came away with nothing, after the visitors had scored their second well into stoppage time.

Team manager John McGrath rang the changes, including relying on Tommy Elliott up front, with Ethan Fitzhugh and Josh Popoola on the flanks. The Bucks excited the crowd with their fast, accurate passing game. The crucial final pass, however, was usually missing, and Hereford looked dangerous on the break, giving home goalkeeper True Grant a busy afternoon.

Hereford scored first, with a close-in shot after 18 minutes, Connor Kirby equalised from almost on the goal-line in the 26th minute and the game flowed, arguably with the Bucks just about on top, but never allowed to dominate. The 93rd minute winner for Hereford meant that the Bucks' poor run of results continues, dropping to 18th in the table, with two away games coming up against strong opponents King's Lynn Town and Chester. Both clubs are in play-off places. Full Match Report HERE

John McGrath reflected afterwards: "It was the same old story. Loads of possession and shifting the ball around well, but we're being let down in the final third. There's no point in being pretty at the back and midfield if ultimately you don't have shots on target. The boys are disappointed, they're hurting.

"They're working hard behind the scenes to put it right. and we're nearly there. There are plenty of positives and we're losing by the smallest of margins. The lads are a good group and they're looking forward to getting out there again, determined to earn points."
